ARC Reef has cultivated over 43,500 square feet of engineered offshore coral reef habitat in the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone, 3.5 miles off Miami Beach, and planted over 200,000 pounds of reef material in Florida waters since 2016, with a conservation commitment of 10 pounds of new reef material planted for every 1 pound of live rock sold. The internal research department and phycology laboratory specialize in coralline algae cultivation, aquacultured live rock production, and large-scale coral propagation methodologies. ARC Reef holds NOAA Federal Permit AQU-069, Florida Department of Agriculture Aquaculture Product Certificate AQ0223588, and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Wholesale Dealer License WD-190448, with D-U-N-S Number 080511668. The ARC REEF wordmark is the subject of pending USPTO Trademark Application Serial Number 99786516. ARC Reef is an active institutional member of the International Society for Applied Phycology, the International Phycological Society, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. ## Sitemaps [XML Sitemap](https://arcreef.com/sitemap_index.xml): Includes all crawlable and indexable pages. ## Posts - [Heart Reef, Miami](https://arcreef.com/coral-restoration/heart-reef/): Heart Reef is a man-made aquaculture installation, designed and built by ARC Reef (Atlantic Reef Conservation) beginning in 2016. It is fully alive: a structured biological community of stony corals, gorgonian octocorals, sponges, encrusting invertebrates, and the diverse microfauna that collectively form what aquarists know as live rock. Unlike concrete reef balls or sunken vessels — which are inert substrates that organisms must colonize from scratch — Heart Reef was constructed from pre-tested calcium carbonate base material, perfectly matching a native reef, and engineered to support immediate biological recruitment. - [Coralline Algae – The Ultimate Guide](https://arcreef.com/live-rock/coralline-algae/): Coralline Algae is a type of red Algae in the order Corallinales. It is a desirable algae to have in a saltwater aquarium and its growth is an indication of a properly matured marine fish tank. It is commonly introduced into an aquarium by placing live rock into the aquarium. Coralline Algae enters the system as one of the many beneficial "hitchhiker's" on live rock as well as on the shells of snails. For a full list of aquarium hitchhikers see our article, Live Rock Hitchhikers. - [Live Rock – The Ultimate Guide](https://arcreef.com/live-rock/live-rock-guide/): The role of Live Rock in an aquarium is a vital one. This guide helps to answer the many questions about what it is, why we need it, how to care for it, and how to select the best type for you. - [Live Rock Curing – The Ultimate Guide](https://arcreef.com/live-rock/live-rock-curing-guide/): We have created the chart below to give you a good idea if curing Live Rock will be needed or not for your order.  All orders are shipped out from our Miami facility, so the closer you live to Florida, the less likely you will need to go through the process of Live Rock Curing.  We have found that if your order takes 4 days or less to receive then 90% of the time you will not need to cure your Live Rocks and they can be placed directly into your tank.  If your shipping time is over 4 days, then we recommend a few days of curing.  The curing process for aquacultured Live Rock is never as long or as intense as it is for Fiji or Pukani type Live Rock.  As a reference we have included below the steps you would need to follow for "non-aquacultured Live Rock". - [Bristle Worms – Fireworms – Polychaete](https://arcreef.com/bristle-worms/bristle-worms-fireworms/): Everything You've Wanted to Know About Bristle Worms But Were Afraid to Ask! - [Bobbit Worm – Eunice aphroditois](https://arcreef.com/bristle-worms/bobbit-worm-eunice-aphroditois/): The Bobbit Worm, or Eunice Aphroditois is a marine ambush predator - [ARC Reef Live Rock](https://arcreef.com/live-rock/arc-reef-live-rock/): ARC Reef Live Rock is 100% Aquacultured right here in the US.  For every 1lb purchased we plant 10lbs. of the source material. To date, we have created over 43,500 sq. ft. of coral reef and this figure will be nearly double in 2020. - [Saltwater Aquarium Supplies Guide](https://arcreef.com/research/saltwater-aquarium-supplies-guide/): Practical Buying Guide to Help Make Your Aquarium Experience Trouble Free. - [Reefs Gone Wrong](https://arcreef.com/coral-restoration/reefs-gone-wrong/): Not all attempts at creating artificial coral reefs have been a success. Some attempts have even had downright disastrous consequences. We take an in-depth look at which man-made reefs have failed the worst and what we have learned from these colossal mistakes. - [SAVE OUR REEFS](https://arcreef.com/live-rock/save-our-reefs/): Wild harvest of Live Rock is destroying reef systems all over the world. Our coral reefs are not a renewable resource. Once we lose these crucial reefs they are lost forever. 1 in 4 species in the ocean comes from a coral reef. Wild harvest practices usually involve using a crowbar or explosives to break apart the coral reefs into collectible size pieces. Once broken into manageable pieces they are then dried on the beach or at a shipping facility. Any corals attached are then removed, as any coral found on imported live rock is cause for seizure by U.S. Fish & Wildlife Department. Then the Live Rock is shipped dry inside cargo containers almost always by boat which takes 30-60 days and will land in Los Angeles, California where it will wait there until it passes through customs. From there it will ship to wholesale distributes and eventually to retailers before finally making its way to you. Nearly all life on these once Live Rocks has died off by this point and all that remains is some bacteria.   The curing process to remove these now dead organisms and get the rocks back to a sellable condition that will not crash a tank will take several weeks to months. - [Carbon Dosing with Vodka](https://arcreef.com/research/carbon-dosing/): Aquariums like to have fun also, and what's more fun than having shots with your aquarium!   If this is the first time you've heard of this, it may sound a little crazy, but hear us through and by the end of this article I guarantee you'll be breaking out that vodka that's been in your liquor cabinet just dying to be opened. - [Free Water Parameter Testing](https://arcreef.com/research/water-testing/): As a thank you to all our loyal customers, we now offer free water testing. We want your little slice of the reef to be an enjoyment, not a hassle. Our water testing procedure is not your average run of the mill aquarium store type water testing. Our technicians use the latest and most accurate testing equipment for every water test we conduct. Our equipment allows us to give you extremely accurate results in parts per billion, not parts per million. Your water will also be microscopically examined for pathogens, viruses, and bacteria. - [How Aquaculture is the Wave of the Future](https://arcreef.com/live-rock/aquaculture/): This article is pending approval and should be posted shortly.  Thank you for your patience. - [Fiji Live Rock vs Pukani Live Rock vs Aquacultured Live Rock](https://arcreef.com/research/fiji-live-rock-vs-pukani-live-rock-vs-aquacultured-live-rock/): There are many choices when it comes to Live Rock and Dry Rock for your saltwater aquarium.  Some people will swear by one type while others another and to make this whole debate even more complicated, the political climate is ever changing.  Live Rock that is available today from one country may cease to exist seemingly overnight.  While personal preference may be one of the key factors in deciding which type of Live Rock to purchase there are still many pros and cons for each type. - [ARC Reef Radio](https://arcreef.com/live-rock/arc-reef-radio/): Our staff here at Atlantic Reef Conservation (ARC Reef) has gotten so many requests through the years that we finally decided to make it available for all to enjoy.   At present we have two Marine Research vessels that are on the water 3-4 days per week expanding our artificial reef systems, aiding with projects, and conducting field research. We take out volunteers, marine biology students, and members of other environmental agencies and on nearly every trip we hear the question, "How can I download your playlist".   So we've created "ARC Reef Radio", it's a public playlist on Spotify and you're invited to listen on with us. ## Products - [Coralline Algae in a Bottle](https://arcreef.com/product/coralline-algae/): IN STOCK -  Ships FREE! Coralline Algae in a Bottle is reef safe and can be used in marine aquariums with fish, corals, and invertebrates. It can be added to both new and mature reef tanks. However, tanks with sea urchins may have slower or limited coralline algae establishment because urchins actively graze on coralline algae and may consume it before it has time to attach, spread, and grow on rock or aquarium surfaces.Coralline algae must be physically introduced into a marine aquarium because it does not appear spontaneously. There are two reliable methods of introduction, each with different success rates and biological constraints. The first method involves stocking snails or hermit crabs whose shells already carry coralline algae from a fish store or supplier tank. This method has significant limitations. A given snail or hermit shell typically carries only one or two species of coralline; those species are adapted to the specific lighting, temperature, and water chemistry of the location where the snail originated, and they may not establish in a tank with different parameters. Many coralline species also release reproductive spores only during specific seasonal windows, so a snail collected outside that window will not seed new growth until that specific season comes again, even if its shell carries adult colonies of coralline. Snails sourced from non-tropical or deep-water environments will not produce coralline that can survive in a tropical reef tank. The second method, introducing coralline algae in spore form, is faster and far more reliable. ARC Reef Coralline Algae in a Bottle delivers up to 13 distinct species when Purple Helix and Pink Fusion are combined, which dramatically increases the probability that several species will find ideal conditions in any given tank. For seeding new coralline algae growth, no method is faster than introducing multiple species in spore form. All coralline algae orders ship from our Miami Beach facility Monday through Saturday, six days a week. Orders are processed and shipped within one business day of being placed. Every shipment is guaranteed to arrive alive, with packaging designed to keep spores fresh in transit.Dose one bottle per 50 gallons of total system water volume, including sump and refugium. For nano tanks of 9 gallons or less, use one-half to three-quarters of a bottle. For tanks between 10 and 50 gallons, use one full bottle. For larger systems, add one additional bottle for every 50 gallons above the first 50. A 100-gallon system uses two bottles, a 150-gallon system uses three, and so on. Overdosing is not possible. The product contains only live coralline algae spores and beneficial nitrifying bacteria, with no calcium, magnesium, alkalinity, or trace element additives, so dosing does not alter water chemistry. Tanks dosed below the recommended volume will still develop coralline algae over time, but visible growth will take significantly longer to appear. Most aquariums show visible coralline algae spots within 8 to 10 weeks, though some hobbyists report growth in as little as 2 to 4 weeks. In ARC Reef's controlled testing, 84% of tanks showed growth within 8 to 10 weeks, and nearly 98.4% showed growth by the 4-month mark. The 8 to 10 week average reflects the time required for spores to settle on hard surfaces and uptake the calcium and magnesium needed to begin growth. Coralline spores behave similarly to mushroom mycelium, with which they share an evolutionary lineage: they remain dormant until environmental conditions align, then appear suddenly across the tank, often overnight. Several variables affect timing. Tank temperature should be 78 to 81 degrees Fahrenheit; temperatures outside this range delay growth by several weeks. pH should be between 8.1 and 8.4. At a pH of 7.8 or below, growth slows substantially. Stable parameters matter more than perfect ones. Swings in alkalinity, pH, ammonia, or salinity will slow coralline development, and large swings can kill the spores entirely. Lighting intensity also affects results, with medium intensity producing the fastest growth and high-intensity SPS lighting producing the slowest, since not every species in the bottle thrives under intense light. Adequate water flow is required so spores can pull calcium and magnesium from the water column. Salt mix selection matters because pH varies between brands, so water changes should not exceed 10% at one time until coralline is established. Test water at least weekly. In approximately 95% of cases where coralline fails to grow, water chemistry is out of range, typically pH or alkalinity running too low. Phosphate also slows growth; GFO, Phosban, or Phosguard can keep phosphate levels in check.Yes, and using both products together is recommended. Purple Helix contains 7 species of coralline algae, and Pink Fusion contains 6, for a combined total of 13 distinct species when dosed together in the same tank. Each species has its own preferences for lighting intensity, temperature, water flow, and water chemistry, so introducing the full range increases the likelihood that several species will find ideal conditions and establish quickly. The result is greater biodiversity, faster overall coverage, and a wider color palette across rock and aquarium surfaces, ranging from deep purple and magenta to soft pink, lavender, and red. The two products do not conflict or interfere with each other. The standard recommendation is 1 to 1.5 pounds of live rock per gallon of aquarium water for a tank with supplemental mechanical or chemical filtration. For tanks where live rock serves as the sole means of biological filtration, the recommendation increases to 2 pounds per gallon. Actual needs vary based on bioload, stocking density, and feeding habits. Overstocked tanks, or tanks where the fish will be overfed, will perform better at the higher end of the range or above. Live rock contains beneficial nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria that convert ammonia and nitrite into less harmful compounds, and porous live rock surface area is the primary site of this biological filtration. More live rock means more bacterial colonization, more stable water chemistry, and faster cycling in newly established tanks. For a 75-gallon reef tank, expect to use between 75 and 150 pounds of live rock, depending on the filtration approach.Live rock is temporarily unavailable and is not being shipped at this time. When live rock shipping resumes, orders are processed within 1 to 2 business days of being received and shipped according to the selected shipping method. Shipping days are scheduled to ensure live rock does not sit in transit over weekends, which would compromise the health of the bacteria, coralline algae, and other organisms living on the rock. - [Home](https://arcreef.com/) - [Wholesale](https://arcreef.com/wholesale/): Become a distributor of ARC Reef products: We offer competitive wholesale pricing and volume discounts on Live Rock, Dry Rock, and Coralline Algae. If you run an aquarium retailer, local fish store, or online storefront, get in touch to set up an account. Carry distinctive, fully aquacultured live rock at wholesale rates while supporting U.S. reef conservation — every product we ship is grown or harvested under state and federal aquaculture licenses here in Florida. Even with limited holding space, you may qualify for our scheduled-delivery bulk programs (weekly or monthly drop-ins direct to your storefront), and online retailers can use our drop-ship option to skip holding-tank space entirely. Fill out the form below, and we'll respond within 48 hours, or call 800-268-7625 (800-268-ROCK) any time. Dry Rock Wholesale Premium aquacultured dry rock. Our wholesale dry rock is the lowest-density aquacultured option available — ultra-white, free of dense minerals and metals, and 100% silica-free. It's mined sustainably from a freshwater aquifer (where it sat curing for thousands of years before we ever touched it), then cleaned and steam-sanitized at high pressure. We pre-drill multiple 1/2" holes in every piece to accept coral frag plugs. No other wholesale supplier puts dry rock through this four-step process. No curing required. Because the rock originates from a freshwater aquifer, it's effectively been curing for millennia before harvest. Drop it into a system, and it's ready to use. Built-in conservation. 20% of proceeds from every sale fund our offshore reef-rebuilding work. Your customers' purchases directly support marine restoration. Coralline Algae Wholesale Two bulk product lines. Purple Helix Coralline Algae (7 species) and Pink Fusion Coralline Algae (6 species). Each bottle treats up to 50 gallons, and the two formulations can be combined for broader species coverage. Excellent for new tank cycling. Every bottle includes live, marine-evolved nitrifying bacteria — not the shelf-stable generic strains found in long-life products. Generic bacteria eventually get out-competed and replaced by marine-specific species anyway, often forcing the tank through multiple soft cycles. Starting with the correct species shortens the cycle time and avoids that succession. Equally effective on mature tanks. Every species we seed is highly epiphytic — it actively crowds out nuisance algae, diatoms, and cyanobacteria while adding color and biodiversity. The result is a healthier, more stable system that's easier to maintain. Buy-back guarantee on expired stock. Live products carry inherent shelf-life risk. We absorb that risk by buying back any bottle that expires in your possession — what we call the "triple win": you don't eat the cost of expiring inventory, your customer always gets the freshest product available, and we maintain our reputation for quality. Three tiers of volume discounts. Wholesale pricing scales from 20% to 40% off, depending on order volume. Built-in conservation. 20% of proceeds fund offshore reef rebuilding. Florida sits on the world's third-largest reef tract and has lost over 85% of its coral cover in the past 20 years — your customers' purchases support targeted restoration using selectively bred coral colonies that show greater resilience to environmental stress. Live Rock Wholesale 100% aquacultured. We're a state and federally licensed aquaculture facility (NOAA Permit AQU-069, FWC WD-190448, FDOA AQ0223588). For every pound of live rock we sell, we plant 10 pounds of new reef material offshore. Your customers know they're supporting the reefs, not depleting them. Minimal curing required. Unlike Fiji or Pukani imports, ARC Reef live rock typically goes straight into display tanks — ready to sell without weeks of die-off curing. Reliable U.S. supply chain. We ship from Miami six days a week. No customs delays, no CITES quotas, no canceled orders. Set up scheduled delivery or order as needed. Direct from the farm. We are the farmers who place the dry rock offshore, the divers who harvest the encrusted live rock, and the licensed facility that packages and ships every order. No middleman, no markup chain — wholesale pricing is the lowest in the industry. Live Sand is also available wholesale. Premium quality. Every rock is hand-selected for shape, holes, and ridges, and arrives fully encrusted with coralline algae. Our live rock starts as our Reef Stacker Dry Rock — the lowest-density aquacultured calcium carbonate base on the market, made from ancient reef skeleton. Drop-shipping available. Online vendors can skip holding-tank space entirely. Drop-ship orders ship in plain packaging with your company's packing slip — no ARC Reef labeling. Unconditional lifetime warranty. Leave powerheads on. - [Coralline Algae Growth Guide](https://arcreef.com/algae/): Some tanks and setups have issues growing Coralline Algae, we constantly get emails inquiring why their tank just won't grow coralline even after several years,  we hope this guide will help to shed some light on possible issues that can affect coralline from growing in any particular aquarium.  Sometimes it can be as simple as using a miscalibrated refractometer or hygrometer.  We hope this helps each and every person achieve highly colorful rocks as a result of identifying their particular issue.  When in doubt, a 30-50% water change is usually enough to offset a system that is out of balance. To achieve results in our stated time-frame you need the proper concentration of spores.  1 bottle is needed for each 50 gallons or tank water (including sump)  If you have a 120 gallon tank and a 30 gallon sump, you will need 3 bottles (1 bottle for each 50 gallons).  If you purchased less than the recommended amount, yes it will still work but it will take much longer than the stated time-frame.  You also cannot overdose with this product, so if you need results sooner, you can double or triple the dose.Have you waited the full time-frame of 8 weeks?  Coralline Algae reproduces in several different ways, tetraspores reproduce on their own timescale, and only when your water quality is the same as natural seawater, so it's anywhere from 1 week to 8 weeks. Slightly longer if your tank runs cold, which will slow there metobolic reproductive rate down, or your levels are not in check, and shorter if your tank is fully cycled already. All of our 13 strains of Coralline Algae are tropical species, they will not grow in very cold waters, and their reproductive rate is the fastest between 78-82 degrees.  We strongly recommend having a heater controller to eliminate fluctuating temperatures, if the temperature fluctuates too much or too often the spores will stay in a dormant like state until this is corrected. - [Live Rock Hitchhikers](https://arcreef.com/live-rock-hitchhikers/): The introduction of Live Rock is the single best way to increase the biodiversity of your aquarium. The goal is to try to obtain a balance and to match that which is found in nature. In the past, the word "hitchhiker" came with a negative connotation. We have come a long way in the hobby and the term hitchhiker is now used to describe the vast array of life of Live Rock hitchhikers. Nearly all of these creatures will add to the balance of life found in your tank. ## Brands - [ARC Reef](https://arcreef.com/brand/arc-reef/) ## Brands - [ARC Reef](https://arcreef.com/brand/arc-reef/) ## About ARC Reef ARC Reef (legal name: Atlantic Reef Conservation LLC) is a federally licensed marine aquaculture facility and research laboratory founded in 2016 by Thomas Mattison, operating from Miami Beach, Florida.
